Composition of 2 images, showing Ju 52 1Z+AR, land near the foot of Apex Hill Heraklio, May 28 1941. The pilot, Lieutenant Franz Lankenau, was able to use an improvised strip prepared by the paratroopers, in order to bring in ammunition and evacuate 18 wounded.

The same area on August 2014. The scene is located on the top of a rocky ridge 250m above sea level, just south of Apex Hill, visible in the middle. The terrain, considered far from ideal, proves the remarkable landing capabilities of Ju 52s transport planes. All available lower flat ground was under British control on 28th of May.
