Then
“Gnome” was one of the two tanks used on the Austaralian attack on the Morning of 27 May 1941 against the German positions in Perivolia. It was immobilized after a direct hit from an LG40 100mm recoilless gun, some 60m east of the German line. The tree cluster on the distant right was housing a German stronghold on the outer perimeter.
Now
Parts of the once open field are today occupied by the expanding Perivolia settlement. The irrigation walls ahead of the tank visible on the archive image are still present, though hidden under vegetation.
